MENA Newswire News Desk: EDGE Group, a leading advanced technology and defense conglomerate, has announced the launch of its new space venture, ‘FADA.’ The name, derived from the Arabic word for space, represents a major step forward in the UAE’s efforts to establish itself as a global leader in the space domain. This launch is set to enhance EDGE’s competitive positioning in the global space market and boost its portfolio of cutting-edge technology solutions.

FADA’s primary objective is to develop sovereign space capabilities and technologies within the UAE, further aligning with the country’s strategic focus on defense and advanced technology. By fostering both national and international collaborations through Transfer of Technology (ToT) and Transfer of Knowledge (ToK), FADA seeks to build a self-reliant space sector that meets both national and commercial needs.

This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the UAE’s transition to a knowledge-based economy, aligning with broader economic diversification goals. The move enhances EDGE’s role as a major player in the space industry while driving innovation in space technology.

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EDGE Group, commented, “The launch of FADA will enable EDGE to expand and fortify its position in the global space sector in line with the UAE’s vision of becoming a leader in space technologies. This step is a strategic leap toward technological excellence and represents our broader ambitions to be a disruptor in this vital domain.”

FADA will play a critical role in establishing state-of-the-art facilities for the development, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of satellite systems. This one-stop-shop solution will serve both local and international clients, offering a range of space-related services including Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Optical (EO), Infrared (IR) payloads, satellite platforms, and cybersecurity services for satellite protection.

Waleid Al Mesmari, President of Space & Cyber Technologies at EDGE, added, “Through FADA, we aim to pioneer cutting-edge technologies and foster partnerships that will establish next-generation satellite systems. This initiative enhances national capabilities and sets new benchmarks in the global space landscape.” The announcement follows EDGE’s selection in November 2023 as the prime contractor for the UAE Space Agency’s ‘Sirb’ program, a constellation of three synthetic aperture radar satellites. The first satellite, Sirb-1, is expected to launch by 2026.
